Celebrations at Namugongo in Progress

The celebrations commemorating the day the 22 martyrs in the Catholic faith were executed are ongoing at thw Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo. The mass led by The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, the Rt. Rev Severus Jjumba assisted by the Papal Nuincio to Uganda, Bishop Luigi Bianco, the Chairman of the Episcopal Conference in Uganda, Bishop Anthony Zziwa started with a procession at 9:30 am. In attendance is the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga,  the Secretary General of NRM, Justine Kasule Lumumba, past presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu accompanied by his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, members of parliament, among other guests. The Bishop in his remarks after the mass thanked everyone who contributed towards the occasion financially, spiritually, morally and in any other way possible towards the success of the celebrations.
